Edward was the fifth son of William Montague and Kitty Glenister 

Edward Hastings was the fifth of the eight sons and two daughters of William Glenister, Chief Constable of Hastings, his grave is at Hastings Cemetery.

The inscription on the grave reads:-

In loving memory of Edward H Glenister died November 18th 1918 aged 59 years, "He lives in our hearts".
Also of Emma Louisa, wife of the above, died October 6th 1935 aged 74 years
