Thomas Glenister & Ann Rolfe

The Grave of Thomas And Anne exists today at Tring but I have no pictures.  I have included them as they are the earliest ancestors known of this branch of the family.

As ever I wonder what stories lie behind the facts we know.

James Rolfe married Elizabeth Toppin on 5th November 1759 at Tring, Ann, their daughter was christened on 12th March 1760, four months later, she was either born before the marriage or soon after.
Thomas Glenister was born four years later in 1764 and married Ann on 13th November 1788 when he was 24 and Ann  aged about 28.
I cannot help but wonder if the fact that Ann was conceived out of wedlock and older than Thomas might have caused a falling out with the Glenister side of the family, in those days it was more usual to name children after their ancestors, in the case of Thomas and Ann they chose to call their eldest son John Rolfe Glenister and their next son William, clearly favouring Ann's side of the family, her eldest brother being John and her other brother William.
Could this be why we are unable to trace this branch back any earlier in spite of the many Glenisters living in Tring at that time?

It should be noted that Ann's father James was buried on 23rd May 1766 when Ann was about 6 which could have been a reason for favouring the Rolfe side of the family although James was not chosen as a name.

There is a James Glennister recorded as having been christened on 1st November 1776 at Tring aged 32 which would put the birth at about 1744.

Thomas Glenister was born in 1764 and may have been their brother.
